About me
I am a BACP registered therapist. I completed my professional training in 2009 gaining a Post Graduate Diploma in Person-Centred counselling from the University of Brighton.
Person-centred counselling was founded by the American psychologist Carl Rogers and it is his philosophy that guides my work. He believed that, given the right conditions, a person can reach their full potential and live authentically. We have, inside ourselves, the wisdom to guide us but this may have been distorted or limited by our need to gain the approval of significant others. Reconnecting to our unique internal compass and developing the courage to trust ourselves is, in my view, at the heart of effective therapy.
For some people, talking isn’t always the easiest way of reaching inside and learning about ourselves. When this is the case, I believe that paying attention to our somatic experiences or exploration through creative mediums and metaphors can deepen self-awareness.
I am increasingly interested in mindfulness both personally and professionally. Mindfulness is about observation without criticism; learning to be increasingly present and freeing ourselves from internal narratives relating to the past or the future that prevent us from appreciating and engaging with life as it is.
I am committed to growth and learning within the profession and continue to receive up to date training in the psychotherapeutic field.
